5 simple tricks to help you burn more calories on a daily basis.
By Gadi Taroni
Step 1
Drink Ice cold water.
Drinking water generally increases your REE known as resting energy expenditure and helps you to burn more calories.
(See study).
Drinking ice water helps you even better.
Our body burns calories bringing very cold water up the body's internal temperature.
The energy the body uses to heat 1ml of water in 1 Celsius degree is 1 cal.
It means that heating 1 liter (1,000 ml) of water in 1 degree worth 1,000 calories or 1 Calorie (Kcal).
Now, heat 1 liter from 0-1 to 35-36 degrees (Normal body heat) and you get 1KCAL X 35 = 35Kcal
Drink 2 liters of ice water and you get 70 Kcals a day.
500 a week
2,000 a month
24,000 a year.
Just think of someone who use to drink sweetened soda drinks and changed his habits to cold water, this change is huge in these terms.. this is hundreds of Calories.
Step 2
Chew gums.
Chewing gums can get you up to 10 calories an hour, don’t forget to calculate the gum calories.
An average sugar-free gum has about 3-4 Calories.
Chewing 1 gum for an hour and a half brings you 10 extra Calories.
Yes, it is barely scratching the ground, but don’t forget to apply all tricks and calculate every single Calorie in the end.
Step 3
Walk more.
Don’t use elevators, park your car further than usual, use the stairs when possible.
Those moving stairs in the mall, the perfect home park lot and this super fast elevator that takes you to the 10th floor in just 20 secs.
Well, give it up… Just let it go. This modern world made us so lazy.
You wake up, brush your teeth, eat something, walk out to your car which is in your garage, drive to your workplace, using the elevator to get to your office where you spent 7-12 hours sitting doing basically no physical activities…
What would you expect? Comfort has its price. And you pay with your health.
Waste this few minutes to walk to your car, to use the stairs and to walk a little bit during breaks.
Step 4
Use Caffeine.
Caffeine was proven to enhance the nerve system, effective on both – aerobic and anaerobic activities.
It improves blood flow and increases heart beat rate and by that helps to burn more calories.
The Calories outtake thanks to the workout boost you get is immeasurable but it is assumed to add up to 10% of your calorie outtake which can be estimated in 20-60 calories per workout.
DON’T
- Don’t consume before bedtime
- Don’t consume with added sugar drinks
Step 5
Eat the best version of the same food.
I love chicken breast, don’t you? I love mayonnaise (sometimes with the crispy chicken).
I definitely appreciate a good cheddar cheese…
Turkey and chicken breast have approximately 20 Calories difference for a same 100 grams portion.
The main nutrient that effects this calorie difference is fat which is higher in chicken breast.
Changing to Turkey breast for athletes who use to eat a lot of meat to get their protein this small change can get you up to 100 Calories daily. That’s a lot.
Same goes with any kind of cheese and any kind of sauce, you can save few extra Calories choosing the same cheese, same portion, even better nutrients with lower fat percentage
Let’s sum up
I have a balanced 2,000 Kcal diet daily. I drink Sugar free cool soda and some cold water during the day. Around 1.5 liter in total.
I eat 300 grams of chicken breast a day, I don’t chew gums and I’m a lazy ass who drives his car everywhere. Ohh.. and I’ve heard that caffeine is bad so I drink decaf in the morning.
After using the 5 tricks I drink 1.5 liter of ice water daily, I eat 300 grams of turkey breast a day, I chew some gums about 2 hours a day (usually when I workout), I started using stairs only but I still prefer parking close to my house… And I started using caffeine pills before working out.
Since I already drink cool soda (around 20 degrees) and cold water (around 10 degrees) I have to calculate only the difference.
I get only 25 Calories from changing to ice water.
I save 60 Calories from switching chicken breast in turkey breast.
I get 12 Calories from chewing gums.
I burn 20 more Calories by using the stairs.
And I boost my workout using caffeine so since I’m a great athlete I burn 40 extra calories.
More than 155 Calories daily almost without changing my lifestyle.
Damn!!
